Former British Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid, has returned to the government headed by Boris Johnson as the new Health Secretary after Matt Hancock resigned over the kissing scandal.
Reacting to his appointment as the new Health Secretary, Javid tweeted, ‘Honoured to have been asked to serve as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care at this critical time. I look forward to contributing to our fight against the pandemic, and serving my country from the Cabinet once again.”

Javid’s return to the Johnson cabinet came soon after Hancock stepped down from his post after he was found to be kissing his aide Gina Coladangelo in violation of social distancing rules that he himself had formulated. CCTV images of Hancock passionately kissing his aide were first published by The Sun tabloid, leaving the Tory politician red-faced. Hancock is married to Martha Hoyer Millar for 15 years and they have three children together.
According to The Sunday Times, Martha had no idea her husband was having an affair until Hancock broke the news and announced that their marriage was over in the wake of the controversy.
As for Javid, he had stunned everyone by resigning from his post as the Chancellor of the Exchequer, known as the finance minister in India, in February last year due to his differences with Boris Johnson. Moving swiftly, Johnson had handed the crucial post to Rishi Sunak, the second-generation British Indian, who’s also the son-in-law of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy.
