There does not seem to be any respite to Dalits from being brutalised by people belonging to upper caste particularly in Uttar Pradesh.

In a latest incident of atrocities against Dalits, a 13-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly denied drinking water at a temple in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh by the priest.

News agency ANI reported that the girl was denied drinking water because of her caste as Dalit.

The report further said that the priest attacked the girl’s father with a trishul(trident) after he confronted him. Police has registered a case against the accused under SC&ST act before taking the priest into custody.

There have been several instances of atrocities against Dalits across the country causing unprecedented protests. The incident in Sambhal took place on a day it was reported that 27 families in BJP-ruled Gujarat were forced to leave outside their village by men belonging to the upper caste.

Gujarat has seen a huge protest by Dalits in the wake of brutality committed by right-wing Hindutva forces against four people in Una for their alleged act of skinning dead cattle in the state.
