Twitter on Sunday erupted with a hilarious meme fest after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official Twitter account was hacked.
The alleged hackers posted using the prime minister’s official Twitter handle, “India has officially accepted bitcoin as legal tender. The government has officially bought 500 BTC and distributing them to all residents of the country.”
Minutes later, @PMOIndia tweeted a clarification confirming the hacking of its Twitter handle. It said, “The Twitter handle of PM @narendramodi
was very briefly compromised. The matter was escalated to Twitter and the account has been immediately secured. In the brief period that the account was compromised, any Tweet shared must be ignored.”

Last year, Modi’s personal Twitter account, linked to his website, was also hacked. The development has caused embarrassment to Modi since he’s long championed the need to push digital India campaign since becoming India’s prime minister in 2014.
