Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan met Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil and discussed the issue of water conservation and malnutrition in the state.

The meeting which took place last night at Vikhe Patil’s official residence lasted for nearly 40 minutes, a statement issued by Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee said today.

Aamir apprised Vikhe Patil of the work his organisation was doing in the field of water conservation. In turn the Congress leader informed him of the water conservation projects undertaken by his Pravra Foundation in Ahmednagar district.

The two also discussed the issue of malnutrition in tribal districts of the state. Aamir is the UNICEF Ambassador for malnutrition awareness, it said. The leader also told Aamir of the Pravra Medical Trust and informed that the Vikhe Patil Foundation will set up medical centre in Jawahar soon to provide aid to the malnourished infants.

Vikhe Patil also urged the actor to encourage NGOs to set up such medical centres in other tribal districts. Aamir also accepted Vikhe Patil’s invitation to visit the water conservation projects undertaken by the Pravra Foundation.

Meanwhile, the Congress leader took a jibe at the Maharashtra government saying its failure in tackling malnutrition has been exposed after the National Human Rights Commission sent a notice to the state government.

He termed death of a malnourished child on the day of visit of state Women and Child Welfare Minister Pankaja Munde to Palghar district as “unfortunate”. Targeting Tribal Minister Vishnu Savara, Vikhe Patil said despite being the guardian Minister of Palghar, he was conspicuous by his absence during Munde’s visit to the district on Wednesday.
