Gyan Singh, previously an MLA from Bandhavgarh (ST) seat in Umaria district, had won from Shahdol (ST) Lok Sabha constituency in the byelection held in November last year following the death of sitting BJP MP Dalpat Singh Paraste.

However, he continued as minister in the Madhya Pradesh government.

A non-MLA can continue as minister for six months.

Gyan Singh met Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at the latter’s residence yesterday and handed over his resignation from the Cabinet, a state Public Relations Officer said today.

Chouhan accepted the resignation and lauded the BJP leader’s work in the field of scheduled castes and tribal welfare.

Following Gyan Singh’s election to the Lok Sabha, the Bandhavgarh Assembly bypoll was held in April this year which was won by his son Shivnarayan Singh.
