Video footage of an Uttar Pradesh woman tearing through a field on a tractor on Wednesday afternoon, with a gun tucked in her sari, has gone viral on the Internet.
The clip shows the woman almost running in circles, trying to chase after a group of women who resist the attack by hitting her with sticks. The tractor driver, identified as Mamata Agarwal even drives over one of the women, who has escaped with minor injuries. Agarwal was soon arrested then and sent to jail today.
The incident happened over a dispute related to a 17-acre property in prime location near the District Magistrate’s residence in Bijnor, which also houses a 100-year old church.
“She (Mamata) says that she has got the property transferred to her name. That document has been found fake. Senior officials had come here and the case has been going on since 2007,” a local resident said.
The Agarwal family has repute in the area as they own an iron rod factory, a flour mill and run a school as well. Mamata claims that she had bought the land over eight years ago but around 50 families who have been staying there for over 40 years say the lady falsely wants to claim it as hers.
“A case has been registered against Mamata under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 and 34 of IPC. We are investigating four more people including her husband, Mr Rajkamal Agarwal,” local police officer Dharmveer Singh said.
Sources say Mamata’s family had no clue about her malicious intentions and that she had hired a tractor herself.
