Olympic medallist Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar has been arrested from northwest Delhi’s Mundka after days of an intense manhunt by cops. A report by news agency IANS had earlier claimed that the Delhi Police arrested Kumar from Jalandhar in Punjab in the case relating to the murder of international wrestler Sagar Dhankar Rana.

However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) PS Kushwah on Sunday said that a team of Special Cell led by Inspector Shivkumar, Inspector Karambir and supervised by ACP Attar Singh has arrested Sushil Kumar and Ajay from Mundka area of Delhi in the murder case.

Kumar, the two-time winner of the Olympic medal, was on the run for nearly 15 days. Earlier, news agency PTI had reported that Kumar’s last location was traced to Punjab’s Bathinda.

A Delhi court had earlier refused to grant him an interim bail saying that the allegations against him were serious in nature and the Olympic champion was prima facie the main conspirator in the murder of Dhankar.

Sushil Kumar is accused of leading a murderous assault on wrestler Rana on 4 May, leading to the latter’s death. Two of his Rana’s friends Sonu and Amit Kumar had sustained injuries in the brawl at the Chhatrasal Stadium premises.
