BJP MP and former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir and former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi may have locked horns on several occasions on the cricket field while playing for their respective countries. However, the two found themselves embroiled in a Twitter spat over the central government’s decision to repeal Article 370.

Shahid Afridi

This was after Afridi urged the United Nations and US President Donald Trump to intervene in Kashmir soon after the Rajya Sabha passed the government’s Bill to bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories.

Afridi wrote, “Kashmiris must be given their due rights as per #UN resolution. The rights of Freedom like all of us. Why was @UN created & why is it sleeping? The unprovoked aggression & crimes being committed in Kashmir against #Humanity must be noted. The @POTUS must play his role to mediate.”

His tweet went viral in no time receiving over 23,000 likes and nearly 7,000 retweets.

Reacting to Afridi’s tweet, Gambhir wrote sarcastically writing that the former Pakistani cricketer was ‘spot on’ in his analysis. He wrote, “@SAfridiOfficial is spot on guys. There is “unprovoked aggression”, there r “crimes against humanity”. He shud be lauded ?for bringing this up. Only thing is he forgot to mention that all this is happening in “Pakistan Occupied Kashmir”. Don’t worry, will sort it out son!!!”

Gambhir had successfully contested on BJP ticket in this year’s Lok Sabha polls from Delhi. He had hailed his own government on Monday for removing Article 370 and bifurcating Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories.
