Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has called for a meeting with his MLAs at his Flagstaff Road residence at 12.30 pm on Sunday.
In today’s meeting with his MLAs, the Delhi CM is likely to discuss the ongoing tussle with the Centre over the appointment of IAS officers in his government.
Kejriwal has already called for an emergency two-day assembly session starting on Tuesday to discuss the Home Ministry’s notification giving sweeping powers to the Lieutenant Governor to appoint bureaucrats and clarifying that he need not “consult” the chief minister on subjects like police and public order.
Meanwhile, the former Additional Solicitor General Vivek Tankha and noted Supreme Court lawyer Indra Jaisingh too have now described the MHA notification unconstitutional. Their views come after the former two noted constitutional experts Gopal Subramaniam and KK Venugopal made similar views on this issue.
Yesterday, the Minister of State (Home) in Narendra Modi’s government, Kiren Rijiju, had said that the A AP leader (Kejriwal) only wanted “drama” while the NDA government believed in good governance.
“It’s not worth responding to Kejriwal who just wants drama. We don’t believe in drama but in governance,” Rijiju had told reporters.
