Odia daily carries front page apology on Rajdeep Sardesai’s terror suspect sketch

Odia daily Sambad has carried a front page apology for carrying the sketch of senior journalist, Rajdeep Sardesai, as a terror suspect.

As reported by www.jantakareporter.com on Friday, the daily had carried Rajdeep’s sketch as one of the five terror suspects currently sought by Maharashtra government after they were reported to have been spotted near Uran naval base.

In its apology, published by the paper’s editor, it said that the error was unintentional.

Reacting to the apology, Rajdeep tweeted, “Appreciate unreserved apology from editor @sambad_odisha on front page. Lesson for all of us to be more careful (sic).”

Sambad had carried Rajdeep’s sketch as one of five suspects spotted near a naval base in Maharashtra’s Uran.

The skecth of five suspects released by Maharashtra government doesn’t include the one carried by Odia daily. It’s not clear yet as to who in the Odia daily decided to include the veteran journalist’s sketch as a suspect.

Blaming the right-wing social media gang behind the ‘mischief,’ Rajdeep had taken to Twitter to register his protest while demanding an apology.

His tweet read, “Just saw a Odhiya newspaper Sambad puts up my sketch as a terror suspect based on RW Twitter gang mischief. If not war, these guys will kill!
