Yash Dhull and Shaik Rasheed on Wednesday pulled off a remarkable double-century partnership for the third wicket to script a stunning victory against Australia in the U19 World Cup semi-final. Team India will now meet England in the final.
Batting first, India made 290-5 in 50 overs. This was largely due to the remarkable efforts by skipper Dhull and Rasheed who rescued India’s innings from 37-2 in 12.3 overs. Dhull was out for 110 in as many balls, while Rasheed was unlucky to have missed out on his century by six runs. His knock of 94 runs made in 108 balls included eight sixes and one six.
In reply, Australia were bowled out 194 giving India a comfortable victory by 96 runs. Lachlan Shaw was the top scorer for Australia as he played a knock of 51 runs in 66 balls. Aside from Corey Miller’s 38 runs and Campbell Kellaway’s 30, no other Aussie batsmen were able to score big in the face of a lethal Indian bowling attack.
Vicky Otswal was the most successful bowler for India, finishing with an impressive bowling spell of 3-42 in 10 overs. Nishant Sindhu and Ravi Kumar shared two wickets each.
India have won the U19 World Cup on four occasions while Australia are a three-time World Champion.
In the first semi-final, England had defeated Afghanistan to reach the U19 World Cup final after a gap of 24 years.
