In another incident of mob lynching in Rajasthan, a Muslim head constable was beaten to death in the state’s Rajsamand district on Saturday. According to reports, Abdul Gani was investigating a land dispute in the area when a mob attacked him after an argument over encroachment.
The 48-year-old cop was seriously injured. Local villagers saw him profusely bleeding and took him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Cops have still not identified Gani’s killers.
Rajasthan has become notorious for the rise in incidents of mob lynchings. This has continued even after the Congress formed the government in the state by defeating the BJP in the last assembly elections.
Last year in September, one Rakbar Khan was lynched to death by a Hindutva mob on suspicion of smuggling a cow. In December 2017, an elderly Muslim, identified as Afrazul, was attacked with an axe before being set on fire alive. His killer Shambhu Lal was hailed as a hero by Hindutva gangs in Rajasthan. This incident too had taken place in the same Rajsamand.
