Now, ‘Daal Pe Charcha’ in Madhya Pradesh

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will hold a “Daal Pe Charcha” across Madhya Pradesh on October 26 in protest against soaring prices of pulses, a party official said on Thursday.

 Toor daal would be cooked on various roundabouts of cities across the state and people would discuss the promised “acche din” together, CPI(M) leader Badal Saroj said.

While prices of arhar daal (once a part of poor man’s diet) continue to skyrocket, no one is available in Delhi take a call on how to check the spiralling prices.

On Tuesday last week, arhar daal was costing Rs 180 per kilo, more expensive than even chicken. In Delhi, price of most other daals are well over Rs 100, with prices having increased by Rs 10-30 per kg since early September.

The finance minister, Arun Jaitley, recently said that the central government was actively planning to build up a buffer stock of pulses through imports to contain prices.
Anti-BJP alliance has been using the rising prices of daal to embarrass the Narendra Modi government. BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha was recently seen launching a veiled attacks against his own leaders for the rising prices of pulses.
