Lalu Yadav sentenced to 5 years of jail, fined Rs. 60 lakh

A CBI court in Ranchi has sentenced former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav to five years of jail in the fifth fodder scam case. The RJD founder has also been fined Rs. 60 lakh.

The case is related to an illegal withdrawal of Rs 139.5 crore from the Doranda treasury in Ranchi in 1995-996 when Yadav was the chief minister of undivided Bihar. The CBI court had convicted 75 people last week.

The 73-year-old politician was taken into custody last week before being shifted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi, now in Jharkhand.
