India’s Deepika Kumari on Friday lost to South Korea’s An San in the women’s individual quarterfinals. Deepika on Friday had defeated Ksenia Perova of the Russian Olympic Committee in the women’s singles archery match. Her victory against the Russian archer had raised hopes for a medal for India.
“It was a disappointing performance, and I could not perform up to my expectations,” Deepika was quoted as saying.
An San went on to win gold, while E Osipova won silver and L Boari bronze in women’s the individual event.
In another development, India’s Lovlina Borgohain on Friday defeated Nien-Chin Chen in her quarterfinal bout of Women’s Welterweight (64-69kg) boxing. This effectively meant that India is now assured a medal even though the country’s newest star from Assam is aiming to win the gold medal in her category.
