BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has mocked External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar by accusing him of being ‘dressed like a Waiter’ during his London trip to attend the G-7 meeting. Jaishankar is in London, where he recently attended the G-7 meeting through video conferencing prompting many to ask why he needed to waste taxpayers’ money on a trip to the UK if he is attending the summit from his hotel room in the English capital.
But, Swamy took a potshot at Jaishankar’s attire as he wrote, “I learn that India’s External Affairs Minister Shri Jaishankar dressed like a Waiter has been placed in Quarantine in London and cannot return home yet !! If not true, refute it please.”

When someone asked if he had never found himself in that dress, Swamy replied, “Not as Jana Sangh member, Janata Party member, and as BJP member.” He rejected allegations that his jibe against Jaishankar was an insult to the waiter community. “Why? It is their dress from the days of British imperialists. Gandhiji in fact asked Patel and Rajaji to give up Western attire. A person representing a BJP govt must dress according to Bharatiyata. Not necessarily others,” he added.
The outspoken BJP leader also urged his party to convert its five-star headquarters into a COVID care facility in view of the raging pandemic, which has claimed tens of thousands of innocent lives. He wrote, “In view of the situation arising from Coronavirus Pandemic, I suggest that top 6 of the 8 floors[6+ 2 in basement] Party Office building in Delhi be converted into a hospital. BJP still has the old offices in Ashoka Road Govt bungalows which can be used for Party. Noble gesture!!”
Swamy had earlier favoured Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to be made in charge of all matters related to the pandemic.
