Gurgaon will flag today a ‘Car-Free Day’ in respect to make Gurgaon free from congested traffic. By riding cycles on road, mission members are encouraging people to make alternate mode of transportation. Gurgaon Police Commissioner also participated and captured during riding a bicycle.
The initiative of World Car Free day firstly observed on 22 September every year and will be enforced every Tuesday from 7 am to 7 pm.
It is being organised by the city’s traffic police and Gurgaon Municipal Corporation with support from NASSCOM, Embaraq India, Raahgiri Foundation and Rapid Metro.
Bharti Arora, Joint Commisiioner Of Police said that around 1 lakh new cars being registered in Gurgaon every year and the initiative being taken as Car Free Day was the best time for city.
Heaviest traffic flow in the city were targeted and four major IT corridors have been identified to focus more in this campaign -DLF Cyber City, Cyber Park area, Golf Course Road and Electronic City.
Parking is available only at Cyber Park and other institutional and commercial areas.
Metro has decided to increase its frequency of trains to 3-3.5 mins which would mean 225 trains and helps to reduce waiting time for users.
An official said, Feeder buses will be provided from major metro stations like HUda City Centre, Sikanderpur, Indus Bank Cyber City and from Kapashera border to other major IT hubs in the city.
