Talks over former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu possibly joining Aam Aadmi Party has reportedly hit a roadblock in the absence of consensus over meeting the former cricketer’s demands.
Close AAP sources told www.jantakareporter.com that the party was in ‘absolutely no mood’ to even consider giving ticket to Sidhu ‘let alone making him the chief ministerial face.’
According to a top source, Sidhu has been adamant for a ticket both for himself and his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu.
“Mr Sidhu wants ticket for himself and his wife. He also wants us to project him as our chief ministerial candidate. While we would happily make Navjot Kaur ji as our candidate in next year’s assembly elections, we simply can’t oblige Sidhu ji as we are helpless.”
According to AAP’s constitution, no two family members can contest elections on the party’s ticket. Sidhu being a convict is also something Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is learnt to have expressed his strong reservations about.
“The other reason why we simply can’t give ticket to Sidhu ji is because of his convicted credential. Where’s the question of making him our CM’s face in Punjab when we can’t even allocate a ticket to contest the election, ” said a top party source.
