Police in Noida fired at a gym trainer in an alleged fake encounter as he returned from a wedding function with his friends. The victim, identified as Jitendra Yadav, is fighting for his life at Noida’s Fortis hospital.
Uttar Pradesh Police said that it had arrested a sub-inspector level official and ordered an inquiry adding that it was not an encounter. Its tweet said, “We have sought a report from Noida police. According to SSP Noida, it’s not a case of encounter. FIR has been written against the Sub inspector and he has been arrested. PC by DIG/ SSP Noida at SP city office in sector 6 in a short while Details will follow.”

UP Police was reacting to a tweet posted by Samajwadi Party spokesperson, Pankhuri Pathak, who alleged that Yadav was a victim of ‘another failed encounter bid’ by Noida Police. She wrote, “Innocent man named Jitendra Yadav shot in the neck in another failed encounter bid by @noidapolice in Noida . @UPGovt trying best to keep the issue away from the media. He is fighting for his life in Fortis Hospital. @Uppolice officers shooting innocents for promotions. Plz RT. (sic)”

Yadav, a resident of Parthala village, is a gym trainer by profession and was returning from a wedding function, organised in Vedrampur in Ghaziabad, in their Mahindra Scorpio SUV at around 10.00 PM on Saturday night. His family is expected to address the media at Fortis Hospital in Sector 62 of Noida at 5 PM on Sunday.
Uttar Pradesh Police have reportedly carried out 1142 encounters 20 March 2017 and 31 January 2018 killing over 35 alleged criminals while injuring 265 others.
