Cop fires several rounds at woman on bike near Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, kills himself: Report


In a shocking development, an armed cop in Kolkata on Friday fired several rounds at a woman, who was on a bike before killing himself. The incident reportedly took place near the building of Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Park Circus area of Kolkata. The cop has been identified as Chodup Lepcha, who was a constable with the Kolkata Police.

Journalist Soumyajit Majumder tweeted, “Several shots fired near Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Park Circus in Kolkata. The gunman, who is a policeman, allegedly killed a woman who was on a bike. Then, the policeman killed himself, say officials. Eyewitnesses claim 10-15 rounds shots fired.”

The cop in question is believed to have been deployed outside the Deputy High Commission office.

The incident took place around 2.30 PM when the policeman fired 10-15 rounds, killing the bike-borne woman.


Journalist Tamaghna Banerjee wrote, “At least two bullets hit a car, one hit a tree trunk, one grazed past a bystander before it pierced through the spine of a woman riding pillion on a bike and she fell off the vehicle.”

The motive behind this firing is not known yet.
