CBSE Class 10 exams cancelled, Class 12 postponed after demands from Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi and Sonu Sood


The government of India on Wednesday decided to cancel this year’s Class 10 CBSE exams after several big names including Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and actor Sonu Sood demanded their cancellation in view of a fresh surge in COVID-19 cases.

The big announcement came immediately after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s review meeting with his government’s senior officials. Education Minister Ramesh Pokhiryal Nishank tweeted, “The Board Exams for Class XIIth to be held from May 4th to June, 14th, 2021 are hereby postponed. These exams will be held hereafter.”

He added, “The situation will be reviewed on 1st June 2021 by the Board, and details will be shared subsequently. A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations..”

As for the cancellation of Class 10 exams, Pokhriyal said, “The Board Exams for Class Xth to be held from 4th May to June 14th, 2021 are hereby cancelled. The results of Class Xth Board will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board.”

Several big names including actor Sonu Sood, Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi had urged the government o not to play with the future of children by forcing them to sit for exams.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia too had asked the government to reconsider its decision to hold CBSE exams in 2021 in view of a dangerous spike in coronavirus cases.

Several Indian states have imposed harsher restrictions to control the fresh surge in the pandemic. While Punjab, Delhi and parts of Uttar Pradesh have imposed a night curfew, Maharashtra on Tuesday announced measures akin to lockdown.
