The counting of votes for the just-concluded assembly polls in five states is underway and early trends indicate that the BJP is set to return to power in four states namely Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa, while Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party is on course to create history in Punjab.

According to trends, the BJP was leading at 268 of 403 seats in Uttar Pradesh, while it was set to win 48 out of 70 seats in Uttarakhand, 18 out of 40 in Goa and 30 out of 60 in Manipur. The AAP was set to sweep Punjab polls as the party led by Kejriwal maintained its lead on 92 out of 117 seats in Punjab. The party, which was formed in 2012, will be aiming to form its government in a second state after Delhi, where it has been in power since 2015.
