The Delhi Police have arrested one person and looking for another for snatching the purse of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s niece, Damyanti Ben Modi, in the national capital. The Delhi Police, according to news agency ANI, arrested one Gaurav alias Nonu in connection with the crime. They have also recovered the snatched belongings from him. Monika Bhardwaj, DCP North Delhi, was quoted as saying, “A snatching case was registered y’day. We’ve arrested a 21-yr-old, Gaurav alias Nonu in connection with the case from Sonipat. The other accused, Badal, will soon be nabbed. We’ve recovered snatched items & also the two-wheeler used in snatching.”

According to Aaj Tak website, Tiwari had blamed illegal infiltrators for the incident and accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of shielding them. Kejriwal, for his part, had said that the culprits should be punished whether they were ‘infiltrators’ or Indians.

The prime minister’s niece had reportedly arrived from Amritsar and booked a room in the Gujarati Samaj Bhavan. She had taken an auto-rickshaw to travel from the Old Delhi Railway Station to the Gujarati Samaj Bhavan. She was alighting out of the auto when two criminals riding a motorbike snatched her purse, which contained cash and mobile phones among other valuable items.
