The news that media mogul Rupert Murdoch and wife Jerry Hall have decided to end their marriage has stunned people around the world. This is Murdoch’s fourth divorce and shortest marriage. The news was first broken by the New York Times, which is said to have spoken to at least two people close to the Murdoch family. Spokespersons of Murdoch and Hall have not commented on reports of their divorce.
Murdoch and Hall got married at a church in London in 2016. Immediately after his wedding, Murdoch had tweeted, “No more tweets for ten days or ever! Feel like the luckiest AND happiest man in world.” Since then, Murdoch never posted any tweet and replied to three tweets.
91-year-old Murdoch is the most powerful media baron in the world with a business presence in the US, UK, Australia and East Asia. 65-year-old Hall is a former top model.
Murdoch was earlier married to Patricia Booker, Anna Murdoch Mann and Wendy Deng.
He married his first wife Booker, a flight attendant, and has a daughter from her. The couple divorced in 1966.
Murdoch’s second wife was Mann, a Scottish journalist, who he divorced in 1999. He has three children from Mann.
His third wife was Wendy Deng, who he divorced in 2014 after 14 years of wedlock. He has two daughters from her.
Reason For Divorce
The last time both Murdoch and Hall were seen in public was in August 2021 when they arrived at a function separately. It’s not clear why they have decided to go separate ways since neither of them has spoken about their relationship. The news has come as a surprise given that Hall had thrown a lavish party on Murdoch’s 90th birthday bash last year.
Net Worth, Alimony
According to Forbes, Murdoch controls a media empire that includes cable channel Fox News, The Times of London and The Wall Street Journal. He sold most of Fox’s movie studio, FX, and National Geographic Networks and its stake in Star India to Disney for $71.3 billion in March 2019.
A native of Australia, Murdoch’s net worth is estimated to be $17.6 billion.
As for Hall, her net worth is estimated to be $20 million.
According to Forbes, Hall had received between £11 to £18 million as part of her divorce settlement from her ex-husband, Mick Jagger.
According to the Mail Online, it is unclear how much of the media mogul’s $17billion fortune may go to Hall. However, lawyer Mark Stephens, of the Howard Kennedy firm, was quoted as saying that Murdoch may have signed a ‘fairly generous’ pre-nuptial agreement. Hall may get $279 million ranch that the couple bought near Yellowstone Park in the US as part of the divorce deal. She may also get $13.8 million Georgian property near Henley-on-Thames that the couple bought in Oxfordshire, England in 2019. Another property may go to Hall is Great Tew Manor in the rural Cotswolds in England, which they had spent around $37million on just restoration.
