Who is Kankipati Rajesh Gujarat cadre IAS officer?

Rajesh is a 2011 batch Gujarat cadre IAS officer. Rajesh is accused of accumulating his wealth by using the election expenditure account to deposit bribes he took to grant weapon licenses and mining contracts.

According to the CBI, as the Surendranagar district collector, Rajesh managed as many as 32 bank accounts, one of them being the election expenditure account. When he took over as the district collector, the election expenditure account had a balance of Rs. 5 lakh. However, the balance in the election expenditure account rose to Rs. 5 crores by April 2021. This was enough to raise suspicions about his questionable dealings.

Anyone wishing to obtain licenses for weapons or secure mining and sand quarry leases would deposit the bribery money into this account. The CBI has accused Rajesh of using the government bank account to park corruption money.

Rajesh is also said to have created fake agencies that he claimed worked for the government’s water supply projects, popularly known as Sajalam Sufalam.

Gujarat’s Anti-Corruption Bureau received numerous complaints against the IAS officer, who was accused of charging Rs. 5 lakh for issuing a weapon licence and Rs. 72 lakh for granting a sand mining lease.
