Popular singer KK died on Tuesday in Kolkata at the age of 53. KK, whose real name was Krishnakumar Kunnath, was in Kolkata for an event.
According to reports, KK fell ill immediately after the event at South Kolkata’s Nazrul Manch. He was taken to the nearby CMRI, where he was declared brought dead.
Hours before his death, KK shared a photo of his performance from Nazrul Manch. He wrote, “Pulsating gig tonight at Nazrul Mancha. Vivekananda College !! Love you all 😘😘”

Who was KK?
KK was a popular playback singer and sang in many languages including Hindi Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese and Gujarati languages films. KK was born on 23 August 1968 to Hindu Malayali parents CS Menon and Kunnath Kanakavalli. He recorded thousands of jingles before making a Bollywood debut.
KK studied at Delhi’s Mount St Mary’s School before receiving a degree Kirori Mal College of the Delhi University.
Wife, children
KK married his childhood sweetheart Jyothy in 1991 and has a son, Nakul Krishna Kunnath , and daughter, Tamara Kunnath.
How did he die?
It’s not clear what caused his sudden death. According to journalist Soumyajit Majumdar ‘Singer KK fell sick after a programme in Nazrul Manch and when taken to CMRI he was declared brought dead.’
