Nick Kyrgios of Australia hit media headlines more for his outrageous outbursts during the match than for his ability to reach the Wimbledon final in the last fortnight. The final between the Australian player and Serbian legend was no different as Kyrgios began to entertain the crowd at the Centre Court with his extraordinary outbursts. At one point during the match, he blamed a woman sitting in the front row for causing her distraction. Although Kygrios never identified the woman in question, Twitter users moved quickly to wonder if the person causing him distraction was Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge.
Kyrgios urged the chair umpire to remove an intoxicated woman, who was sitting in the front row. He said, “It’s a Wimbledon final..This (distraction) nearly cost me my game.”
Kyrgios was 40-0 ahead in the fifth game of the third set but he lost three straight points for it to become a deuce game. Much to his comfort, the Australian won the game but he had to stop his serve on several occasions to launch his verbal tirade against an unidentified woman in the gallery.
Kyrgios told the umpire, “She’s drunk out of her mind in the first row, talking to me in the middle of the game… The one with the dress.”
Chair umpire Renaud Lichtenstein asked, “(The one) With the dots?.”
The Australian replied, “The one who looks like she’s had about 700 drinks, bro.”
His reply left the commentators in splits.
The woman was later identified as 32-year-old Polish medical lawyer Ania Palus. However, many Twitter users wondered if the final’s chief guest, Kate, was the one causing a distraction to Kyrgios.

Kyrgios lost the match in four sets as Kate took charge to award the trophies to both Djokovic and Kyrgios. Kate was watching the final with her husband, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and her son Prince George. What prompted Twitterati to mistake the Duchess of Cambridge with the woman causing a distraction to Kyrgios was her polka dress.
One user asked, “Can someone confirm that the Duchess of Cambridge aka Kate Middleton was really visibly drunk while her 9 year old son was in her presence at #Wimbledon2022? #AskingforEveryone.” Another wrote, “A woman with a polka dot dress will be escorted out of court for distracting #kyrgios. It’s Kate isn’t?”
