Indian tourism ministry has finally broken its silence denying media reports that the Bollywood actor Aamir Khan had been dropped as the ambassador of its Incredible India campaign.
It’s official release said, “In response to certain news reports appearing in the media, about Shri. Aamir Khan, the Ministry of Tourism clarifies that there is no change in the stand of the ministry in this matter.
The Ministry further clarifies that at present it has a contractual agreement with creative agency McCann Worldwide to produce social awareness campaign and the said campaign featured Shri. Aamir Khan.”
The ministry’s clarification comes after news regarding Khan being removed from Incredible India as its brand ambassador began to dominate the conversation on social media. Incredible India has been a top twitter trend since Wednesday afternoon.
Jantakareporter.com had attempted to speak to top civil servants in the ministry but had failed to elicit any response from them.
The new assumed significance in light of Khan’s controversial comments on growing religious intolerance in India under the Modi government.
