MI vs DC: Why netizens are calling Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar on ‘wrong side of nepotism’; reference to Ananya Panday

Mumbai Indians once again did not pick Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar for their last match against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022. This has evoked angry reactions from cricket fans, who are expressing sympathy for the young cricketer. Many have concluded that Arjun Tendulkar was being punished for being the son of Sachin Tendulkar as they drew a parallel with Bollywood actress Ananya Panday. Ananya, the daughter of Bollywood actor Chunky Pandey, has had to face criticism for being a product of nepotism in the Hindi film industry.

Mumbai Indias have had their worst-ever season in IPL 2022, winning three out of 13 matches they’ve played so far. The team owned by Mukesh Ambani are already out of the IPL’s play-off stage but they can do a favour to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) if they beat the team from Delhi.

A defeat for the DC will mean that the RCB can become the fourth team to qualify for the play-off stage. The other three teams already having booked their place in the last four are Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants.

Reacting to the MI’s decision to not pick Arjun Tendulkar, netizens took to social media to express their disappointment. One user wrote, “If Ananya Pandey is the right side of nepotism..Then Arjun Tendulkar is the wrong side of nepotism. (sic).”

Another user wrote, “So No Arjun Tendulkar even today! Still no chance to #ArjunTendulkar. Two Ipl Seasons But not even a single game.”

According to another user, “Arjun Tendulkar deserved a chance. He can clock a speed of 135km/hr in nets but Mumbai just wasting his talent.”

One user wrote, “Why the hell you are even ruining career of #ArjunTendulkar.. He’s with you since last 4 years and not a single chance has been given to him.. Instead you sud allow other franchise to buy him, at least he wud b able to get a chance to show hs skills
@mipaltan #MIvsDC.”

Mumbai Indians bought Arjun Tendulkar in IPL auctions for two years in a row but did not pick the young player in a single match. Many had thought that Arjun may finally get a chance in the wake of MI’s worst-ever season.
