Janta Ka Reporter was the first to report how the popular singer had become a target of  the Davinder Bambiha gang. Aulakh is now reported to have asked the Punjab government to boost his security in view of the threats to his life.

The Davinder Bambiha group had issued chilling threats to Mankirt Aulakh in a Facebook post in April this year. In their post, the gangster group had accused Aulakh of being no less than any gangster as the singer was allegedly associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar had claimed responsibility for the killing of Moosewala, whose last rites were performed on Tuesday. Moosewala was killed in broad daylight on 29 May in the Mansa district. According to the medical report, his killer had fired more than 24 rounds of bullets in his chest.

Moosewala’s father on Tuesday demanded an independent probe by a high court judge and also sought the involvement of the CBI and the NIA.

When Aulakh received death threats in April this year, he had sought security for himself from the newly elected AAP government headed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Threats to Aulakh’s life were detected by the Punjab Police during their investigation in the murder of the Kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambiya. The police had found out that Aulakh was next on the gangster’s hit list. In March this year, India’s international Kabaddi player, Sandeep Nangal Ambian (originally Sandeep Singh Sandhu), was shot dead in Jalandhar during a tournament.

The police’s worry assumed significance in light of Vikramjit Singh Middukhera’s murder in August last year. Middukhera, a youth Akali Dal leader, was Aulakh’s close friend.

The police had arrested three sharpshooters, who confessed to their crime, adding that they carried out the murder at the behest of gangsters Amit Dagar and Bhuppi Rana. These sharshooters were identified as Anil Kumar alias Latth, Sajjan Singh alias Bholu and Ajay Kumar alias Sunny members of Kaushal – Bambhia – Lucky Padial gang.

Reacting to Mossewala’s murder, Aulakh had written on Instagram, “A mother lost her son.”
