Karan Johar multi-starrer JugJugg Jeeyo appears to be meeting the fate of Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj as the film failed to impress fans in theatres on the first day of its release. Made at a whopping budget of Rs. 150 crore, the film collected only Rs. 9.28 crore at the box office on the first day of its release. The overall business on Friday assumed significance given that JugJugg Jeeyo was released in 3375 screens across the country.
Karan, however, appeared elated by the first day’s performance as he wrote on Instagram, “Counting our blessings and the love! See you in cinemas❤️❤️❤️”
Akshay’s Prithviraj too had collected Rs. 10.70 crore on the first day of its release before it went on a downward slide. Several shows had to be cancelled as there were no takers for Prithviraj within days of its release. Made at a budget of Rs. 300 crore, the film failed to earn more than Rs. 66 crore at the box office.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted, “#JugJuggJeeyo opens with a strong start on Friday, earns 9.28cr. With a strong positive WOM – the family entertainer of the season starring Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Maniesh Paul and Prajakta Koli is all set to witness a big jump on Sat and Sunday!”

Fans of Sushant Singh Rajput had called for the boycott of JugJugg Jeeyo. Immediately after Sishant’s death, Karan had to face widespread condemnation for being a reason for the actor’s suicide. Faced with growing anger, Karan had to leave social media platforms and even issue a clarification. There were reports that Karan’s children even received death threats.
According to industry watchers, Karan’s film starring Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor is expected to earn more than Rs. 10 crore on Saturday. Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj too had done considerably more business than the first day but completely fizzled out after the first weekend.
