Actor Johnny Depp has taken an extraordinary step to warn his fans to be aware of imposters in the wake of his defamation case win against ex-wife Amber Heard. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, who recently made his debut on TikTok said that too many people had created social media accounts in his name to confuse fans.
Updating his Instagram story, Depp wrote, “I’ve been made aware that there are fake accounts pretending to be me or people working with me.”
He listed his official social media handles as he wrote, “I do not have any private or side accounts on any platforms. These are the only pages run by me and my team where we share updates and communicate: Instagram @JohnnyDepp TikTok @JohnnyDepp Facebook @JohnnyDepp Discord @JohnnyDepp0854.”
Asking his fans to remain cautious ‘as it seems these fake accounts can be relentless,’ the famous Hollywood star said, “My team is working to combat the problem.”
He concluded by thanking his fans for their ‘continued support and for making’ him ‘aware of this issue!’
Depp hit global media headlines earlier this month when an American jury found Amber Heard guilty of defaming her ex-husband through a newspaper column in The Washington Post. Heard was ordered to pay $15m in damages to Depp.
Soon after his victory in the libel case, Depp had made his debut on TikTok, where he amassed more than 10 million followers within 24 hours. He currently have more than 15 million followers on TikTok even though the actor has shared just one video. While sharing the video, Depp had written, “To all of my most treasured, loyal and unwavering supporters. We’ve been everywhere together, we have seen everything together. We have walked the same road together. We did the right thing together, all because you cared. And now, we will all move forward together. You are, as always, my employers and once again I am whittled down to no way to say thank you, other than just by saying thank you. So, thank you. My love & respect, JD.”
Depp also has more than 26 million followers on Instagram. The actor has been staying in the UK for quite some time. He had stunned everyone by appearing at an Indian restaurant in Birmingham, where he reportedly splashed more than $50,000 on food bill this month.
