Some of the opposition politicians in India are being called hypocrites for routinely insulting Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata and Gautam Adani while making a beeline in inviting Tesla owner Elon Musk to invest in their states. This was after politicians such as Navjot Singh Sidhu, Tamil Nadu’s Industries Minister Thangam Thenarasu, Maharashtra Minister Jayant Patil and Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao publicly urged Musk to invest in their respective states in India.
One Twitter user had asked the Tesla founder about his plans to invest in India. “Yo @elonmusk any further update as to when Tesla’s will launch in India? They’re pretty awesome and deserve to be in every corner of the world!”
Replying to the user, Musk had said that he was ‘still working through a lot of challenges with the government’ in India.

Sensing an opportunity to heap further embarrassment on the Indian government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several politicians from political parties opposed to the BJP reached out to Musk on Twitter urging him to invest in their states.
Tamil Nadu Industries Minister Thenarasu tweeted, “Hi Mr. Elon @elonmusk I’m from Tamil Nadu.Tamil Nadu accounts for 34% share in total planned investments for Electric Vehicles. Welcome to India’s EV capital. Also Tamil Nadu is one of the top nine renewable energy markets in the world. #tnforpartnership.”
Tamil Nadu has a coalition government of the DMK and the Congress with parties being opposed to Narendra Modi.

Telangana’s Industries Minister KT Rama Rao wrote on Twitter, “Hey Elon, I am the Industry & Commerce Minister of Telangana state in India. Will be happy to partner Tesla in working through the challenges to set shop in India/Telangana. Our state is a champion in sustainability initiatives & a top notch business destination in India.”
Telangana is governed by the TRS, a political party that fought against the BJP in the last assembly polls.

Maharashtra Minister Jayant Patil too responded to Musk’s tweet and wrote, “@elonmusk, Maharashtra is one of the most progressive states in India. We will provide you all the necessary help from Maharashtra for you to get established in India. We invite you to establish your manufacturing plant in Maharashtra.”
Patil is a senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, which fought elections against the BJP in coalition of the Congress. The party was formed by Sharad Pawar after he left the Congress.

Supporters of BJP sensed a coordinated move by opposition politicians to embarrass Modi. Many of them took to Twitter to allege that the same politicians, who urged Musk to invest in their states, often vilified Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata and Gautam Adani. One user wrote, “The ruling parties in Punjab, Maharashtra, Bengal and Telangana are trying to humiliate the Government of India by vying for Elon Musk’s attention on Twitter. And then they get touchy when they’re treated as a sorry joke.”
Another user wrote, “Indian Politicians oppose Adani, Ambani and Tata because they are Capitalists but they favour founder of Tesla Elon Musk as he is Socialists..”
“Those who all are inviting Elon Musk, keep in mind they are the same were opposing Tata, Ambani. DOUBLE STANDARD PEOPLE!,” commented another user.
According to another user, “We Indians invite Elonmusk to set up an EV plan in India but oppose Tata, Ambani, Adani if they do the same. Instead of inviting Elon musk what’s stopping us to start an EV revolution in India. Ola is already doing that. Elon musk himself said Indian has great talent.”
