Social media on Wednesday went into frenzy after reports of actor Aamir Khan being removed as the official brand ambassador of Incredible India campaign surfaced.
However, bureaucrats in the tourism ministry, headed by Mahesh Sharma have adopted mysterious silence with no officers willing to comment.
www.jantakareporter.com called the office of Minakshi Mehta, Deputy Director General (Publicity) in Ministry of Tourism, but her PA politely informed us that the lady officer was in a ‘meeting.’ We were advised to speak to one Mr Joshi, who according to Mehta’s PA, was the right authority to either confirm or deny the reports.
However, Joshi expressed his surprise on our request being routed to his office and instead advised us to speak to Mehta’s senior and Director, Publicity, Suman Billa.
Billa’s office, when contacted asked us to go back to Mehta’s office for confirmation.
This was clearly indicative of the government’s reluctance to comment on a development that may potentially embarrass the central government.
Twitter has been abuzz with the reports of Aamir Khan being removed by the Modi government as its flagship campaign Incredible India’s ambassador. This was largely attributed to his comments on religious intolerance, which was deemed as an attack on the central government.
If indeed the reports of Aamir’s removal as Incredible India’s brand ambassador are true, then it may be deemed as a shining example of the central government’s vindictive politics and give credence to its alleged reputation of being intolerant to criticism.
Here are how social media users are talking on twitter
Truly " Incredible India " that the @narendramodi government can't tolerate a citizen exercise his constitutional right!
