Former singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has hit out at Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan saying that the actor’s stardom took a beating after he stopped singing for him.
Abhijeet had sung for Shah Rukh in several movies with his tracks becoming quite popular in the 90s. They included Badi Mushkil Hai, Chalte Chalte and Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaaun among others. He told India Today that Shah Rukh was a rockstar only until he sang for him.
“I made superstars with my voice. Till the time I sang for Shah Rukh Khan, he was a rock star. When I stopped singing for him – and I stopped singing for him – he came down to Lungi Dance,” the former singer said.
Abhijeet, who has shot to notoriety for his abusive rants and support for the vicious right-wing ideology, did not stop here. He went on to explain the real reason why he had stopped singing for the superstar.
He told India Today at a conclave, “It was a very small reason I stopped singing for Shah Rukh. In Main Hoon Na, they showed everyone from a spot boy to everyone else, but the singers. The same thing happened with Om Shanti Om. Stars sang Dhoom Tana. It was my voice. But it wasn’t shown anywhere. The self-respect was hurt. Why should I ask them to add my name? The problem is I don’t lack anything. So why should I ask for this?”
However, the industry watchers say that one of the reasons why Abhijeet may have fallen out of favour with Bollywood filmmakers was because of the arrival of fresh talent in the industry including those from Pakistan.
Abhijeet was arrested briefly in 2016 as Twitter deleted his account after he was found to be harassing women on social media platforms. During a live debate on ABP News, he had abused Rifat Jawaid, the founder of Janta Ka Reporter, and threatened to physically assault him.
