Remember former Australia skipper Steve Waugh, who famously led his cricket team to a 16-match winning streak until the Aussies were defeated by Team India in a remarkable fashion at the Eden Garden in 2001. Known for his intense approach to the game of cricket, Waugh was spotted at the women’s singles semi-final Australian Open between Ash Barty and Madison Key. Much to the netizens’ amusement, Waugh was seen intensely eating his ice cream. The video became viral in no time and triggered a meme fest on Twitter.
In the viral video, Waugh was seen enjoying either a cornetto or a drumstick before licking his lips to enjoy the leftover. Little did he realise that he had been caught on camera.
One user wrote, “Steve Waugh. Fearless captain. Brilliant cricketer. Drumstick’s new celebrity ambassador. #AusOpen.”
Journalist James Lamb tweeted, “How good Steve Waugh pulling a Costanza at the tennis.” He added, “Most interesting thing to happen during this match to be honest.”
Journalist Anthony Clark tweeted, “Steve Waugh given the George Constanza treatment… spotted eating an ice cream at the #AusOpen.”
Journalist Sam Clench wrote on Twitter, “Nothing like Steve Waugh looking old as hell to remind you you’re getting on in years too #AusOpen.”

Australia’s Ashleigh Barty will face American Danielle Collins in this year’s Australian Open women’s singles final. Both players won their semi-final clashes comfortably. Barty has become the first Australian player to reach the Australian Open final in 42 years. She would become the first Australian tennis player to win the Grand Slam title since Christine O’Neil achieved the feat in 1978.
