Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj Day 2 box office collection; film on course to become massive flop despite propaganda, tax free status from BJP governments

Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj is on course to become another massive flop for the controversial actor after it failed to gain momentum at the box office on the second day of its releasse. The film had collected just Rs. 10.70 crore on the first day of its release.

Prithviraj had a budget of Rs. 270 crore -300 crore including post-production costs. However, the film is estimated to collect just Rs. 12.75 crore. Its slow growth despite being released in a whopping 4,000 screens across the country means that there are simply no takers for the film, widely viewed as a propaganda work by Akshay to create hate in society.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted, “#SamratPrithviraj ‘s Day 2 All-India Early Estimates is ₹ 12.75 Crs Nett.”

While Prithviraj has failed to impress the audience, two other films, both released this Friday, have performed exceedingly well. Vikram starring Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil have already crossed Rs. 100 crore mark in two days.

Bala tweeted, “In 2 days, #Vikram crosses the ₹ 100 Cr Mark at the WW Box Office.. Phenomenal.”

Another south Indian film Major starring Adivi Vesh and Saiee Manjrekar had collected Rs. 13.70 crore on the first day of its release. The film is believed to have improved its performance on the second day of its release, especially in the Hindi sector.

Given the poor response to Prithviraj, it’s highly unlikely that Akjshay Kumar’s propaganda film will be able to improve its business in the coming days. The bad news for the film is the scheduled release of Jurassic World: Dominion next Friday.

Akshay came under widespread condemnation for indulging in Islamophobia to promote his film, which is accused of doing away with historical facts to woo right-wing Hindu groups in India. However, even many right-wing Hindus called out his hypocrisy and reminded how he had mocked Hindu Gods during the release of his previous films.
