The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation on Wednesday announced its awardees and Carnatic singer T.M. Krishna finds a place in the list.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation, which felicitates stellar work in various fields internationally. Krishna will be honoured with the prestigious award for “social inclusiveness in culture”, while Wilson will be felicitated for “asserting the inalienable right to a life of human dignity”, through his Safai Karmachari Andolan.
Apart from two Indians, Conchita Carpio-Morales, Dompet Dhuafa, Vientiane Rescue and Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers are the other four winners of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for this year.
Bezwada Wilson, the national convenor of the Safai Karmachari Andolan and born to a dalit family in Karnataka, has been praised for his efforts for “asserting the inalienable right to a life of human dignity.”
TM Krishna has been lauded for “ensuring social inclusiveness in culture.” TM Krishna, born in Chennai, is a proponent of Karnatik music.
