Union minister Harsh Vardhan has issued a clarification stating that the man being thrashed in the viral video by an unknown mob wasn’t him.
His tweet said, “A video in my name is making rounds on whatsapp and other media. It’s misleading content being spread with malicious and mischievous intent.”

This was after former minister in Manmohan Singh government, Manish Tiwari tweeted the video claiming that a union minister was being thrashed as a result of people’s anger over demonetisation.
His tweet said, “Who is this gentleman at the receiving end of the people’s ire on demonetisation? Is he by any chance a Minister of the Union of India? Guess.”

Many Twitter users including some BJP supporters quickly sought to point out that the video in question was an old one and the man being roughed up was in fact a BJP MLA in Asansol in West Bengal.
The video posted by Manish Tiwari has been doing the rounds on Facebook for few days. Critics of PM Modi’s demonetisation has been using the video to illustrate the level of anger against the note ban in rural India.
Similar video of BJP leaders being either chased or thrashed had recently surfaced from Madhya Pradesh and Assam.
