BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy on Friday lost his cool at one of his own party supporters after she accused his journalist daughter of having converted to Islam.
This was after a BJP supporter Sulagna Dash reacted to a social media post of journalist Suhasini Haidar, Swamy’s daughter, by calling her a ‘converted Muslim lady.’ Responding to the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed’s announcement to grant Zayed Medal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Haidar had tweeted, “Is the Zayed Medal announcement tagged to possible visit by PM to Abu Dhabi temple? Either way, odd for foreign governments to make such declarations during election campaign.”
Dash wrote, “Don’t understand why this converted Muslim lady always against Hindus and bjp ??”
Taking objection to Dash’s attack, Swamy tweeted, “You are either lying or a buffoon. She is not converted.”
The UAE government on Thursday granted the ‘Zayed Medal’ to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving ‘boost’ to the bilateral ties between India and the UAE. This, according to local correspondents in Dubai, was to stop Modi’s possible visit to Abu Dhabi for the foundation laying ceremony of a Hindu temple.
Suhasini Haidar works for The Hindu newspaper as the paper’s National Editor and Diplomatic Affairs Editor. She is married to Nadeem Haidar, son of Salman Haidar, former Indian foreign secretary.
