A policeman was killed in a ‘suicide’ bomb attack, near Gaddafi Stadium in Pakistan on Friday night.

The blast took place at 9 p.m., when a day-night match was being played between Pakistan and Zimbabwe in the stadium. According to PTI reports, a suicide bomber blew himself up while riding a rickshaw near Kalma Chowk, which is less than a kilometer away from the ground.

Pakistan’s Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid told Geo News that, “An attempt to attack the Gaddafi Stadium was foiled by the gallantry of a police official, who lost his life while trying to stop the attacker near Kalma Chowk.”

However, senior police officials have denied that it was a suicide attack.

International cricket returned to Pakistan after a six-year absence last week. Zimbabwe’s touring team has been provided ‘presidential security’ by the Punjab government keeping in mind the aforementioned attack in Pakistan.
