Police in the German city of Munich say one Indian man, aged 47, was killed after an immigrant stabbed the Indian couple. The attacker is believed to be a 33-year-old immigrant from New Guinea. Police have arrested the attacker, but the motive behind the gruesome attack remains unclear.
Meanwhile, India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, on Saturday took to Twitter to ensure that help was provided to the victims. She wrote, “Indian couple Prashant and Smita Basarur were stabbed by an immigrant near Munich. Unfortunately, Prashant has expired. Smita is stable. We are facilitating the travel of Prashant’s brother to Germany. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.”

According to reports, the man from New Guinea attacked Prashant in his chest and head with a knife after the couple got into an argument with the killer, who lived in the same apartment block. The reason for their fight is not known. Authorities in Munich say that they’ve launched an investigation into the attack on the Indian couple.
The alleged killer was produced before a magistrate court in Augsburg, where he was charged with attempt to murder. However, that charge will now be converted into murder after Prashant’s death.
The couple had attained German citizenship only last year.
