A tour bus plunged off a cliff in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, killing 11 people and injuring 8 passengers.

China’s official Xinhua News Agency said that the accident took place at around 9 am on Wednesday morning in Gonggar county just south of the regional capital of Lhasa. Investigators are probing the cause of the accident.

The bus belonged to a Lhasa-based tour bus company, but gave no details about those on board, according to Xinhua.

The Himalayan region has become an attractive tourist destination for Chinese locals, numbers hitting 15 million in 2014, up more than 20 percent from the year before, bringing in close to $2 billion in revenue, according to official statistics.
