The slow left-arm orthodox bowler from Jharkhand has taken 50-plus wickets in two seasons in a row. He took 51 wickets for Jharkhand in 2015-16 season and 56 wickets in the last season. In total, he’s claimed 424 wickets in 110 first-class matches.
Born in Muzaffarpur, Shahbaz also led the Jharkhand team on a few occasions. He’s represented India in the under-19 team and played for Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderababd in the IPL competition.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added left-arm spinner Mr Shahbaz Nadeem to India’s Test squad for the third and final Paytm Test against South Africa. The decision to add Nadeem was made after Mr Kuldeep Yadav complained of left shoulder pain on Friday,” chairman of selectors MSK Prasad was quoted as saying in a BCCI press release.
Shahbaz, who currently resides in Kolkata, took eight wickets in the two four-day games for India A against South Africa A before the Test series started.
Shahbaz had received his maiden India call-up for the T20I team during the West Indies’ tour of India last year but he did not favour from the captain to represent India in a single game.
The third and the final Test match will take place in Ranchi from today. India already lead the series 2-0.
