India beat West Indies in low-scoring T20 encounter by four wickets

The Indian cricket team on Saturday beat West Indies in their opening T20 encounter in a low scoring match by four wickets.

Put in to bat after India won the toss, West Indies could only score 95 for the loss of nine wickets in their quota of 20 overs. Navdeep Saini took three wickets for India, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar picked up two while Washington Sundar, Khaleel Ahmed, Krunal Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja scalped one wicket each.

For West Indies, Kieron Pollard was the top scorer with 49 runs. Nicholas Pooran scored 20 with no other batsmen being able to cross the double-digit mark.

India achieved the target in 17.2 overs by losing six wickets. Rohit Sharma was the top scorer for India with 24 runs, while skipper Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey contributed with 19 runs each. Krunal Pandya and Jadeja chipped in with 12 and 10 runs respectively.

Saini was adjudged Man Of The Match for his three-wicket haul. Speaking after the match, Kohli said, “Our bowling and fielding was right up there. The pitch wasn’t great to be honest. But they couldn’t have done much with all the rain around I guess. They did well to start the game on time. The bowlers were on top throughout, variations were superb. Navdeep is from Delhi and he’s come a long way. He plays the IPL as well and had a great season.”

Today’s was the first of the three Two internationals India will play against West Indies during their current tour. The Indian team will also play two Tests and three One Day Internationals against the hosts.
