Former Pakistani skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has said that a delay in consulting his doctor would have led to the damage of his heart. Inzamam, however, clarified that there was no truth in media reports claiming that he’s had a heart attack.

He said, “I want to thank everyone, cricketers, cricketers from other countries, commentators and the public. People from all around the world prayed for me. I felt very good. So I thought I should thank people for this.

“I didn’t see myself but heard that some people said that I had suffered a heart attack. This was absolutely not true. I had gone to my doctor for a routine check-up. I was told that they (doctors) wanted to do the angio (angioplasty) since they detected some issues there.”

Inzamam said that it was during the angioplasty that the doctors informed him how his artery was blocked. He was advised to have a stent placed in his heart.

The former Pakistani skipper urged his fans to immediately consult a doctor in the event that they experienced anything abnormal in their health before it’s too late. The 51-year-old former cricketer said that his heart would have been damaged had he delayed in consulting a doctor.

Inzamam said that he had returned after being discharged from the hospital.

51-year-old Inzamam grabbed the international limelight in 1992 when Pakistan lifted the World Cup, held in Australia and New Zealand. With 11,701 runs in 375 One Day Internationals, he is Pakistan’s highest run-getter. He is also the third-highest run-scorer in Tests for his country with 8829 runs in 119 matches.

He held several administrative positions after retiring from professional cricket in 2007. He acted as the batting consultant for the Pakistani cricket team before becoming the country’s chief selector between 2016 and 2019. Inzamam was also the head coach of Afghanistan in the past.
