Angry Rohit Sharma fans cancel Star Sports with expletive-laden hashtag after official broadcaster of World Cup prefers Virat Kohli over Indian skipper

This World Cup has seen Virat Kohli return to his form with prolific batting as he looks set to break several records. Team India skipper Rohit Sharma too has been in a great form, scoring runs freely as India maintained their unbeaten run in the competition. However, this has not stopped the fans of both Kohli and Sharma from indulging in social media mud-slinging on each other. Just days before India’s crucial semi-final match, Rohit Sharma fans have waged a war on the official broadcaster of the World Cup, Star Sports, accusing the TV channel of biases in favour of Kohli.

Enraged fans of Rohit Sharma on Friday trended a hashtag, which was laden with expletives. They inundated X, formerly known as Twitter, with memes and criticism targeting Star Sports.

One fans wrote, “Rohit Sharma >>> Star sports. STAR SPORTS KI MKC.” Another wrote, “1. Didn’t Include Rohit Sharma in Fab 5 who is best Batter in World cups. 2. Took all the credit from Rohit and Showned Virat Kohli in Promos despite Rohit performing well in that match. This channel is just another PR company which works for money,” commented another user. Anotehr fan wrote, “Rohit Sharma achievements and fan base are substantial, making it difficult for negative PR of star sports to significantly diminish his influence.”

It seems the fans of Rohit Sharma are angry that Star Sports did not include their hero in the list of ‘Fav 5’ players that included Steve Smith of Australia, Kane Williamson of New Zealand, Joe Root of England, Virat Kohli of India and Babar Azam of Pakistan. They felt that this was unfair to the Indian skipper, who should have been in the list of world’s top five batters.
