Indian tennis star Sania Mirza’s husband Shoaib Malik has sensationally revealed that he was forced to wash his own clothes while playing for the Australian Big Bash League, which is modelled along the lines of Indian Premier League. Malik said that he had no option but to take his clothes that he had washed at his apartment to dry in a machine across the road.

Malik is currently working for a Pakistani TV channel as a pundit to comment on the ongoing Cricket World Cup. He’s joined by former Pakistani players Wasim Akram, Misbah-ul-Haq and Moin Khan. Addressing Akram, Malik shared a moving story from his days of playing cricket in the BBL.

“I was playing the Big Bash League. They give you an apartment (to stay) where you have to make your own breakfast and wash your own clothes because the BBL lasts for one and a half month.”

Malik continued, “I washed my clothes but didn’t have a dryer (to dry my clothes). I put my washed clothes in a bucket and walked across the road where you could use a dryer by inserting coins in the machine. The CEO of my Hobart team saw me carrying a bucket full of washed clothes across the road. He didn’t tell me anything. The next day when I returned to my apartment from the practice, I saw the dryer machine installed in my apartment.”

Malik said that this showed just how much they look after a professional cricketer in Australia.

Malik’s story evoked positive reactions from netizens. One wrote, “Malik perfectly explains life of a suburban cricketers.” Another commented, “Awesome example shared by Shoeb Malik on how aussies look after the players. If the captain of hobert can notice such things and take action, then we all need to learn from this!!!”

Malik is married to Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and they have one child.
