A group of right-wing thugs on Monday beat up a 25-year-old Muslim man at a court in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh where he had gone to marry a Hindu woman.
According to a report by IANS, Sahil, who works at a Noida firm with the girl identified as Preeti Singh, had gone to the court o register his marriage with her on Monday afternoon when the crowd attacked them.
Sanjay Panday, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sihani Gate police station, told the news agency that the police personnel at the court saved the man from the attackers.
“We have registered an FIR against two men — Vinod and Navneet — and several unknown persons. No arrest has been made so far,” Panday was quoted as saying. Sahil, who hails from Bhopal, sustained minor injuries while the woman, from Bijnore in Uttar Pradesh, escaped unhurt.
Another police official was quoted by The Hindu, “We have registered a FIR against unknown people under IPC section 147 (rioting), 323 (causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) at Sihani Gate police station.”
The couple were advised to have their marriage registered in Ghaziabad to avoid trouble by the Hindutva fanatics.
A group of right-wing terrorists had killed a Muslim man in Hapur, Ghaziabad’s neighbouring district last month. Qasim was killed on suspicion of planning to steal a cow. The right-wing Hindutva thugs left him to die even as he kept begging for water.
The latest episode of terrorism perpetrated by Hindutva thugs comes amidst a Muslim man, Rakbar Khan, being killed on suspicion of smuggling cows in Rajasthan. The police had taken three hours to cover the distance of 6 kms while taking the injured Rakbar to a community health centre in Ramgarh in Alwar district.
The cops had also taken a refreshment break on their way even as Rakbar cried in pain. Alwar cop, Mohan Singh, had later accepted his mistake.
