The victim, identified as Vivek Tiwary, was on his way home in his SUV after a successful launch of a mobile phone when a constable ordered him to stop his car. The constable opened fire after he refused to stop the car.

Tiwary reportedly lost his balance as his car collided with a pillar of an underpass in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar area.

“Police personnel was detained yesterday after he shot at a car on noticing suspicious activity, injuring driver of the vehicle. On seeing police, he (Tiwary) tried to flee and rammed his car against a wall. He later succumbed to his injuries. The post-moretem report will determine the cause of death,” Lucknow Superintendent of Police Kalanidhi Naithani was quoted by ANI.

Meanwhile, police have arrested the accused constable and booked him under Section 302 of the IPC.

Vivek’s wife has demanded justice for her husband. She told ABP News, “Which law gave Uttar Pradesh police a right to shoot him? The cops are framing him saying he was in an inappropriate position when he was shot, but if he was wrong the cops should have arrested him from his residence.”

Kalpana Tiwari later told ANI, “We had voted for the BJP with a lot of trust. When Yogi ji became our chief minister, we were so happy. And this is what happens to us.”

She sought explanation from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and asked him to get her justice.

The constable in question was quoted as saying, “I tried to stop his car but he didnt stop, thereafter he reversed his car thrice and tried to hit our bike with his car, hence I fired the gunshot in self defence.”
